Postpartum Doula Services

What is a postpartum doula?

The Postpartum Doula’s job is to make the transition to parenthood easier for new parents, to help mom during her recovery period and to ascertain what the family needs help with and provide instruction. The main objective of the Postpartum Doula’s role is not to take over complete care of the newborn, but to educate and support the family so that they will feel confident to care for the newborn themselves.

How can she help your family?

After giving birth to a baby, new parents are exhausted and just learning to juggle life with a newborn (or multiple children). They are stressed and most visitors are there to hold baby, but aren’t in tune with what else needs to be done to help the new parents cope. A Postpartum Doula will be able to come into the home and figure out exactly how to help. Whether it be helping mom and baby with getting a good breastfeeding latch, teaching dad how to clip baby’s nails or noticing that

mom is displaying signs of postpartum anxiety, the doula is there to make everyone feel at ease. Some other tasks the Postpartum Doula might help with are providing evidence-based information on baby care, explaining how to best care for a sore perineum or preparing 24-hours worth of bottles. Each individual family’s needs are different and the Postpartum Doula is flexible and able to meet those needs.
